“There are worse things in life than death. Have you ever spent an evening with an insurance salesman?” Woody Allen
Woody was right. Insurance bores me more than budgets. But it is SO important to some people. It’s not just a solid foundation, its the rock the foundations are built on. Cock this up and you could end up in a HUGE mess.
“Debt is like any other trap, easy enough to get into, but hard enough to get out of.” – Henry Wheeler Shaw
Debt sucks. Like REALLY sucks. It sucks the life and soul out of you. It’s painful. It makes life easier for a while, but when you end up trying to deal with it, it horrible. But the worst thing you can do is ignore it. So once you have your budget sorted, the next thing we need to do is make sure we are looking at debt and starting the get rid of it.
In “My Simple FI:RE Plan“, the first step I mentioned was doing a budget. So honesty time, ……..yeah…….yawn! I hate budgets. But guess what? If I had actually made one years’ ago I would have been in a much better place by now.
There are lots of blogs out there on the world wide t’internet that cover one of these four subjects. There are also a couple of them in the deepest corners that cover a couple of them together. And there are none (that I can find) that look at three, never mind all four of these subjects. So why I am trying to? Because to some people it may seem a bit nuts. Here’s why…
How the hell do you get to achieve FI:RE?I mean, it’s a big damn thing to do – having enough money to never work again. Holy shit. Most people have to rely on the state to do that when they reach their late 60’s. But an enlightened and determined few do it sooner.
People love a label, an identity, a group or a gang. We are pack animals, evolved from tribes but messed up by modern urbanisation and lifestyles. But take a look at identity politics and see how much we still want/use/focus on it. FI:RE has rapidly become one of those things.
